Dear St Anthony’s
Hello good day and god bless. I have recently paid a visit to your church, last Saturday the the 15th of October, and i would like to say something about it. Beyond all of the lord’s prayer i really like the mass. The things of note are what was read in-between, i.e. the passage from exodus and the advice on giving everyone their due. When Moses held up his arms, the battle went well. When his arms began to tire there was support right there to keep him strong and meditating for the victory of his followers. What would have happened if the support was not there?
It was mentioned that in this day and age and i’d say not in any age, are we doing a good job of providing everyone their due. As in food, shelter, and the rest. Homeless individuals are everywhere, including myself. Albeit i make the choice to live without a home, while others often end up on the street through drugs and alcohol. At least in this city no one seems to be hungry. But the shelter thing is a problem and i feel i understand why, with the police chant being “move along you can’t sleep here.” There are programs, but most just end up ruining their position by getting drunk. A free bed is not a place for a party. But then what do we do with the alcoholics, the ones that have conditioned their bodies to actually need alcohol. Does beer now become part of their due? I doubt it, but they still deserve their due as one of god’s creation. Marijuana is a much better choice, even Moses smoked the burning bush.
I had a conversation with a priest after the mass and honestly i’m severely disappointed or maybe somewhat egotistically successful about it. I rang the bell and waited outback. The priest came out apologizing as he had to change for an “event” that Saturday night. I asked him if there was anything i can do? That i would like to perform my service to the world, help bring everyone their due and maybe participate in the feed or teach a meditation class so that we can all learn to do as Moses did. His reply was “sorry we don’t just hire anyone off the street.” i replied, “jesus was on the street.” he admitted, “a lot has changed since then.” He offered me money or a sandwich, but here is the thing, I have taken a vow never to touch money or wear shoes. And they feed the homeless plenty over at the library.
So now i have a catholic priest admitting that what his church says and does has really nothing at all to do with the example that jesus’s life has provided for us. The church doesn’t seem to be doing anything at all except a mass on the weekends and a Thursday meditation meeting for the alcoholics with homes. I could have received money for whatever my “fix” may be, but not anything i really need. Like that support Moses received. I’m fighting a war here, non-violently, except i have no support and my arms are very tired. I’ve been offered meth, crack and heroin but no weed. This is a travesty when i can find man made drugs, but not the plant that god gave us. Your church seems to be the closest thing to a real church in this city yet i want you to know that if jesus himself walked up to your door and asked to help others, you would not have anything for him and would lock your door. The doors of a church should never be locked. You would not even recognize him or listen to anything he said and this proves to me, along with history,(i have a degree in religion) that your church and every other church out there has almost nothing to do with anything jesus lived his life by besides the praise of his name. At least we try. Think about this and perhaps we shall grow. Let me teach a class. And perhaps sway the congregation to vote for medical marijuana come November so we on the street have a better option to get high that won’t ruin our lives.
